HOLLY WICKHAM LMSW, CAADC

Life doesn’t seem to make sense sometimes, and neither does the story of how I came to be a therapist. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Cinema and Media Studies from Carleton College, while spending my summers as a farm hand in rural Minnesota, milking goats to make fresh cheese and planting broccoli starters from a strip of plywood being dragged through the field rows by a rundown pickup.

Earning my master’s in social work from the University of Michigan equipped me to support people as they better understand themselves and make meaningful changes in their lives at various life stages and circumstances. I like to break down clinical approaches to collaboratively determine the best fit for each person’s unique goals. I often use elements of neurobiology, cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance commitment therapy, and motivational interviewing.

Over the past decade or so, I’ve developed professionally by working in college access for low-income students, facilitating reentry for people finishing long term prison sentences, supporting homeless youth in a shelter, and defending clients charged with felonies at the Detroit public defender’s office. My breadth of personal and professional experiences helps me understand how mental health plays a role in all aspects of our lives.

While I have the most experience working with adolescents and young adults, gender and sexuality, ADHD, anxiety, and addiction recovery, I am open to working with anyone who’s interested in bettering themselves.
